OFFICIAL: Wheel Colour Poll

Like an enigma wrapped in a riddle wrapped in chinchilla, LBM will bring you in and out of consciousness with alternating waves of outer space-like freshness and pharaonic opulence. You can think of the Paris based design firm like a renaissance man from the future, whose inspirations age timeless, yet capture and astound those in the present.

OFFICIAL: Wheel Colour Poll

Postby Maraschino Larry » Sat Jun 17, 2006 10:02 am

Sorry for the lack of photoshops, I need to spend today sanding and prepping or this post will have no meaning at all. Rob if you still have the chop I did with the black ones feel free to add that up- or photoshop it really, if you have the time

Just some notes on what will eventually change with each choice.

Black: No changes to car.

Brown: Brown hood stencil, brown roof top (with possible white pinstripe around it). Also note that this will officially tie in my brown dash and wood accents!

White: White roof top. OR No chrome bodyline and a handpainted white pinstripe.

I am leaning towards brown at the moment. The black would fit in the best as it sits, but there are sets of these finished this way and I would like a little flava. 8)

Thanks Kartellians

Dude, brown would be perfect. But i think if you were to do the brown roof and stencil you would need a little bit of wgite to offset the colour. white pinstripe on the roof, and maybe a quick shot of white stencil below the brown, just so it shows up better.

if necessary, you could also incorporate the brown and white into a side pinstripe, without issue.

agreed on all accounts. I'm gonna do a white stencil first with runs and little overspray, and then the brown one over it, just a tiny bit off so you get the white showing a bit.

So nobody makes a brown wheel OR engine enamel. I bought a hammered tremclad brown for "all surfaces" :/ and an armor coat enamel for "metal" with a "glossy dursble finish" for use on "lawn mowers and wheelbarrows...".

I'm doing a test spot of each and letting it sit overnight. I hypothosize that the hammered stuff will flake off if I look at it. I hope not though- it looks sexy.

fuck yes. all 4 wheels are sanded to 1000 dry- last step to paint besides a good alcohol wipe.

I did two test spots. They are quit ethe different shades of braun. The hammered finish is like a dark bronzy sort of grey-y brown, while the enamel is decidedly reddy. Both would work fine I recon....... I hope.

another update:

none of the browns were working properly. the ones that bonded properly were like grey/bronze and the one that was okay shade-wise didnt adheare at all.

after consulting 2 of my 3 style consultants, and my fiance, I ended up going with white. I am gonna hit them up with brown at a later time, but they will be white for jitterbug.

3 coats later and we have wheels.

I just finished sanding the second one to 2000 (finest paper I have at the moment).

Just checked UPS tracking and it says my tires were signed for at 4:30pm... which is odd because I went at like 4:50 to check and they werent in :?... whatever we'll track them down tomorrow.

So they will be mounted tomorrow *cross fangles*. As usual, no pics.

PS: I wish I could have gotten the drivers chrome handle on before jitterbug. Whatever though.

This is okay as nobody is out any time or money on the deal yet (correct?)

PS: I like how I made a poll and then didn't listen at all. I do not like how it was over 5 years ago that I made this thread... kind of shocking.

This was even before the roof was painted. Before my time with the kartell I guess.

Well those pics are from JJB and you joined the board in August... so not too much before. Also you helped me paint the roof in Hayley's parents' back yard under a large maple tree during a wind storm, remember?

That was a fun day. I still cringe when I think about touching the can on the roof after doing it all PERFECTLY up until that point.
