The Mk3 Pickup.

Of course, this idea has haunted my subconscious periodically over the past few years, and it's hit me hard again. Rick posting that damn BMW didn't help me shake it off either.

I was messing around in MS Paint last week, and as far as side proportions go, this is what I came up with:

Believe it or not, it's all self taught

I guess the biggest problem with attempting to make a pickup out of a unibody sedan would be flex. Any ideas on what it would take to stiffen the chassis without going overkill?
I was thinking a 2"x 4"x 1/4"wall tube running from the firewall back to the rear wheel arch, which would tie into a structural cage that would box the 'cab' in.

A second tube would run parallell to the 2"x 4", along the top line of the 'bed' that would also tie into the cage, and obviously braced between the two. I have no idea if any of that makes sense, but I can seem to picture it in my head.

Anyways. It's just another idea that will never come to fruition.

I would go with a frameless (I think that's what they're called) rear window for better flow, otherwise looks good.

The MK2 version looks awesome.

Would be really wonderful if they carried that beveled edge that runs under the rear window and extended it all the way back!

I bet a MK1 Caddy tailgate could be made to work real easily also.
