Next, any reputable tire shops in the area? I don't want my wheels to get borked up.

Wow. No 205/45R-18. Seems odd.

Apparently BMWs don't have this issue.... I can't find a spec anywhere for the x-drive system.

If the system uses a mechanical centre diff it'll have this issue... Too far off and things won't turn at the same speed. I've seen in owners manuals for manufacturers to go as far as warning against replacing only the front or rear pair of tires as the extra tread will be enough of a difference to cause damage!

Well, after looking at some pictures of 205/40/18 on a 8" wide wheel I'm starting to lose my nerve.

Is this going to look too stretched?

FRONT
REAR

Or maybe I've been on Rennlist too much.

Well the front is where you're going to be rubbing, so presumably the top of the tire is going to be better hidden out front?

Looking at the stretch in those pictures off the car is a bit of a misrepresentation. You don't happen to have any examples you can post of cars sporting just the 205-40-18s on the fronts and the 225s on the rears? (Assuming you haven't found pics of something with the tire sizes you intend to run both front and rear).

The existing tire setup on your car is definitely beefy, and while it looks great it does prompt my brain to wonder how it fits under there. I think this tire setup will bring the car's aesthetic up another notch... Anyway some pics of that front tire setup on a 964 would help if that's possible to get!

Closest I have found is on last page. This setup is beautiful.

They're 18x8 et 42 front and 18x9.5 et 40 in the rear. Tires are (purists' are going to kill me here ) 215/35 front and 245/35 rears falkens

His:
FRONT 18x8 et 42 with 215/35
REAR 18x9.5 et 40 with 245/35

Mine are
FRONT 18x8 et 47
REAR 18x9 et 52

I am expecting to space the rear out.

I think you'll be ok stepping up a profile size and down in width.

The lip of your wheel also curves down instead of poking out like his wheel lip does. This will help to hide the stretch a lot more.

Can I get some consensus on this?

I think you are good with those sizes Randy. Michelins don't really stretch a lot either and iirc they don't have a prominent rim protector so the stretch is not visually enhanced by that.
