So I've got to do some metalwork on the hatch. Minor, but necessary.
Scenario 1: back to stock (trim/ license plate lights)
Scenario 2: remove plastic trim, drop the light mounting surface to perpendicular with license plate, flush mount lights and trunk release button (all pointing down). This would require reworking the linkage a bit.

My hesitation is that there isn't really any other smoothing going on now (but I'd like to add some subtle shaving here and there over time).

What say ye?

OK, yeah, I guess like this:

Except without continuing the line across the hatch (or dropping it down to the line in the tail light). I just don't like how it doesn't match up with anything. Mine wouldn't be that low though (NA plate).

If there were a way to shave all the holes and keep the recess exactly as is (with no extended plinth) I'd vote that option. Easiest approach would probably be a popper and lose the button/lock, and use those plate bolt light things and lose the oems.

Otherwise I think repairing is the way to go. I always liked how those hatches looked right from the factory. Are you ditching the badge holes while you've got the welder out?

Do you mean shave the holes and lose the trim? I really don't want to use a popper... More remotes and wiring are not on my list lol

That is what I mean. I like how the recess has the soft radius at all 4 corners... when people craft hatches like the one you posted I don't see the point, stock plinth looks better if you're going to create a hard line anyways.

But yeah I totally hear you on the less complicated front, 1 vote for Señorio Uno.

That was another thought... Basically shrink the stock opening to fit the plate better. I like the idea of filling the stock plinth (I didn't know that was a word) but keeping the button in there somehow.
