Almost there...

Postby tripwalking » Tue Jul 17, 2012 12:58 pm

I've connected the lighting harness and switched over all the plugs from the 95 gti to the originals. Just have to get a temp permit, have the windshield replaced, and get a safety. Still have a CEL and the oil light beeps at me if I hold the rpm at about 4k for a few seconds. Is there anything other than the pressure sender at the front bottom of the motor that reads oil pressure?

Wow, klaus to the rescue!

Went to the DMV at 4:00, had everything I thought I needed. Turns out since the cars more than 20 years old, I need an appraisal. She said if I can get one and get back before 5 I wouldn't have to wait in line. She said SOME small dealerships MIGHT do an appraisal without seeing the car. I booted to Weide, introduced myself and he took the appraisal form from me and started to fill it out. He said "you didn't fill it out. What's this?" Didn't charge me anything. I think I'll stop in with some coffees some time. even made it back by 5.

Wow, considering the differing opinions I've heard of Klaus, you got out easy. Bring him something! lol.

DW you should buy these steelies. 7" and 8" for $600 delivered to Toronto (from Gatineau)

If I didn't have my 14" wheels I would totally be allll over those. And they clear 10.1" brakes without issues!

I have a small book of requirements for a safety... brakes, tires, body work... I float between parting it out and starting over with something else that I could have on the road with less work and just getting it done so I can drive the dern thing.

I should be able to do everything except the sheet metal, but Garth down the driveway is good at it and I do his website so we often barter a bit.

Went down to Garths today and one of his guys has a set of these that he's looking to get rid of... the wheels, I mean.

So I have those wheels... they're pretty neat. Different bolt pattern though. I'm just going to clean them up for now and see what happens to them if I leave them long enough.

Today, I picked up a new tail pan and Garth is going to do some sheet metal work to it. Mostly patching holes. The clutch pedal was on the floor, but after adding fluid it seems to be working better so I'll see what it feels like after bleeding the brakes and clutch system after I change the brakes, which I have now too. Engine is nice and snappy, and sounds great. I really hope I don't have to change the clutch master cylinder.

I think I'll make some motor mounts for it too- it shudders when releasing the clutch but I read somewhere that that could actually be something to do with the clutch, so I'll wait and see, but I'd like to do engine mounts for it anyways.

Nice!

Are they 4x98? If so you just need some wobble bolts (and possible hub rngs if the CB isn't the same).

Glad to hear the patient is going to make it :)

Felt motivated to post automotive content :)

Replacing rear pan, maybe rockers. Running new brake lines, installed rear cylinders/drums/shoes, have to check and see if the clutch cylinder is fine after bleeding the brakes. Hoping to have it on the road before I have to put the '32 away for the winter.

I like how the plate says DW.

Do work! Very impressive... glad to see the phoenix will rise from the ashes :)

Ha, glad you caught that! I think the lady at the DMV thought I was a little off at how excited I was to have DW in the plate.

Oh heads-up I still have those coil overs... not sure if you're interested but I'll probably be selling them sooner than later, so let me know if you want me to hold them. The idea of hoarding VW parts is losing its appeal lately

I'll keep it in mind, thanks... the suspension felt ok save for a tie rod end or something like that. Did you come across any more parts for the Golf?

Probably looking for $300 for the set... they're $370+ shipping from the US. Brand new, never opened other than to look at 'em.

What do you have in mind? I'll keep my eyes open but I don't think there's much left///
