Hey Raj, sorry... just saw this now.

I picked up a harness from a 95 gti in Guelph... Tristan was instrumental in the removal. Thanks T!

Regarding the windshield, I'm hoping to organize Randy with a reminiscent drive in the Golf to Methes where Speedy can replace the windshield in the parking lot. I've checked around here and there's no way to even come close to that price.

Likely the throttle position sensor... the ground wire was holding on by a thread, but when I fixed the wire it didn't run any better. Revs rise and fall, and it runs really rich. When I unplug the sensor, it idles fine but throttle response is really laggy, like a DBW car except worse. Revs aren't commensurate with throttle blips. I think that makes sense?

People with one or more mkiis: are these speaker wires? Two go to the fan blower, and four go to the rear corners of the car, but plugs on both ends are snipped.

Got a replacement motor in the back of the truck... Thanks Tristan! Couldn't have done it without you.
Going to clean the grime, make a couple 2.9 clone intakes for PROFITZ and then convince Randy to drive it to work to get a new windshield.

The 2.9 clone sounds quite different... a bigger whoosh on a throttle blip, and a kind of more nasal sound? idunno. I had no idea the manifold had been modified... I'm starting to wonder if anything internal has been done. This is from the gti motor that Tristan and I took out btw.

Drove it around the parking lot today! Still have to swap alternators and install the obd port so I can figure out what the cel is. I'm getting an oil pressure light with a beeping too.

Video isn't loading :P

The oil pressure sensor in the old motor was replaced not too long before I took it off the road. Replaced due to the beeping the faulty one was causing...

Yo those wires above look like stereo wires btw.

Car is OBDII ?

Mine is OBDI and I know it's going to throw a perma CEL if I hook one up because of the cams.

Not sure if the same applies for VRs but using the correct weight oil and OEM oil filter got rid of the oil buzzing on the 8v.

Rick, I put the factory oil pressure sensor back in... You were getting a beep with that one? (it was in a bag in the car). I thought the aftermarket one was for an oil pressure gauge... I noticed that there had been gauges in the dummy panel at one time so I thought the sender was for that. I'll put it back in.

Motor is obd1.

The motor that's in there now has an aluminum valve cover, while the motor I bought has a plastic one. Are either more desirable?

Thanks Raj, I think they're speaker wires too... I'm contemplating a simple iPhone hookup to the rear speakers and getting tipout door bins to replace the front speakers. I rarely listen to music any more... I thought about just hanging a set of over ear headphones from the roof to pop on when I want. That's what I do on trips in the 32. My dad talked to a cop who said that's ok to do.

No the one in the engine was an OEM replacement to the broken one which I apparently put in the glove box instead of throwing it away (sorry lol).

Man, I'm glad to see this car coming back to life again. I don't use the term "OG" often, but this car is one of the OG MK2 VR swaps. If only it's twin was still around.

One of the previous owners asked if I knew what happened to this car... I'll be sure to pass the good news along to him.

Sounds like you've got the problem solved, but I had the exact same problem with my MK2 - the fuel pump wouldn't prime. Turns out OBD2 motors have to crank three times before triggering the in tank pump.

I've been in touch with one of the first owners on the vortex... Lowblackdub I think? He was pretty happy to hear about it. It's running smooth now- one coil had pooched. That would explain the fuel smell and rough idle :) I have three vr intakes to make 2.9 clones of now (two for Tristan) and I like how it sounds.
I'm so excited to daily this thing...

Planning to hopefully head out not this weekend but the next weekend to grab my car.

Will make my way up with spare bits if I do, and maybe we can go for a MK2 VR cruise?

So true. A genuine driver so it's extra sweet that's how it's gonna live again. It'd be a shame if it got the Gregosh treatment :P
