Things to remember

Postby Dreamstate » Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:58 pm

For my failing memory, I will need to put a few things here so I remember.

The blower motor has started to howl since it's gotten cold out, found out it's only an hour's work:

I would like to add to this thread for future searches that I very little difficulty getting to the fan on my 2003 5 speed. I saw the Vortex link and didn't really like the idea of tearing apart the whole interior. Six torx screws and the glove box was out, no hidden screw in my car. Pulled the fan, blew out the brushes/armature and lubed the bearings with Triflow. Re-install was just as easy, it doesn't howl anymore, and the whole deal took about 30 minutes. I'm sure I will need a new blower at some point but it's working for now.

Tis an easy job for sure. I did mine in about an hour. Only crappy part was it was negative double digits when it failed.

Verified!
Much better design. I'm glad it's not like the corrado where I have to take the dash out. I also read about replacing the w115 one where you have to remove basically everything between the front seats and the firewall. Sounded to be 2 full days work.

Oddly enough, I ordered a new fan 2 days ago. I don't want to have to disassemble and lube the thing every year.
