Things didn't pan out with the cup-kit because I was out of town when they were needed, and took the car keys with me.

Oh well. Still stock and llllllllllloving it.

Took a quick peek at the timing belt... looks like she needs doing!

That's the next order of business which will be taken care of while I'm away in Ft Mac for the next couple of weeks.

Good thing the Volvo is still around for daily duty (BTCC style abuse)

Thinking the above wheels (18x8 and 18x9) with my votex lip, badgeless grille, OE projectors with the half orange turn signals, and a very tiny wood steering wheel and shifter?? Yes??? YES????

Or should I stick to a cup kit and the phaeton wheels and votex lip and call it a day. Hm

As much as I'd love to encourage you to be sensible I have a big soft spot for those wheels and the rest of the plan is legit too. DO THAT

Timing belt, tensioner, water pump and idler pulley replaced. Oil change done. $1100.

Should be good for a while.

In light of another mortgage, car is only getting the cup kit installed... still want the Phaeton Challenge wheels but maybe next Spring... Ditto for cupkit, which will likely sit around till then.

Really do love this car though. Put a lot of mileage on it last weekend just cruising... It's so effing slow and I love it!

Was so amped to do the OEM bluetooth ready deck conversion (Google RMT200), but I bought a $10 cassette adapter instead. With the music flowing I am even more in love with this ride!

Also not sure if I posted this but I found a set of Votex side skirts for a mere $200. So I now have the full Votex kit! Should look the part with them Phaeton wheels, and OE projectors with some of them cloudy OEM clear turn signals... versus the crystal clears that come with the projectors.

OEM+ YO

Yeah buddy!

I will likely be getting one of the bluetooth cassette adapters when I have a car to put the old Alpine into.

Had a day off... Can't remember the last time that happened!

So I hit some Monster Mats I picked up from the wreckers for $6.50.

Image

They was covered in oil and grease as you can see.

So I soaked them in Simple Green for 10 mins then rinsed them with a powerwasher, scrubbed them with some soap and a brush, re-rinsed with power washer and they look like brand new!

All cleaned up and in:

Lastly the faded side signals were bugging me... Couldn't find a pair of unfaded ones anywhere at the wreckers but did find a b4 Passat

So this happened:

Shift boot was worn so got a replacement equally-crappy-as-OEM boot and shift knob combo for $9 incl shipping. Yay China!

Also caved and grabbed the RMT200. Bluetooth with built in mic? Uses OEM connectors? SD+USB+Aux all in the front? Caman... bonus OE red/whitish lighting!

The trunk sticker did not include the colour code, but I matched it to LB7Z from a chip sheet at a body supply shop.

Fact: My dad's 2013 Passat Comfortline is less of a car in ways than this 1999 GLS.

Reasons why:
- Trunk hinges that do not fold in the 2013 but protrude into the trunk a la Chevy Cavalier. Accidentally overstuff your trunk and your trunklid is permanently fux0r3d.
- All doors wind up/wind down on lock in the 1999, not the case for the 2013
- While cleaning/waxing the 2013 I discovered that the sheetmetal is FREAKISHLY thin... I forsee many dings/dents
- 1999 has Random touches like: gas tank release under arm rest (2013 is standard flap you flip open by hand), cigarette/12v port in trunk (weird but cool!), spotlights under the doors.

Granted the 1.8T is sluggish but nothing a chip can't fix? And the 2013 has handsfree/bluetooth/wireless connectivity, but that was fixed with an OEM deck in the Passat (with matching lighting to boot)...

If I had the option to choose between 1999 and 2013, I'd take the 2013 because it's newer, but I definitely wouldn't care for it or enjoy it like this 1999.

Hope I can keep her going for some time to come!... Really would like to get it to be a 300hp sleeper :)

Textured the front lip

RMT200 installed (literally in less than 5 min)

Image

When off... So matchy.

Full control of the iPad either wired or via Bluetooth and amazing call quality on the hands free with built in mic.

Claybared half the car but have to finish up another day... I attempted to power wash out some tar specks that fell onto the paint... Bad idea. Ended up chipping the paint in a couple spots.

Oh well some touch up paint and she will be good.

LOVE MY B5!!!

Bought Tarmacs in 18x8.5 and 18x9.5

They are a satin silver of a sorts... they are getting stripped and refinished a glossy metallic silver.

Currently beat to f* and plastidipped so got a good deal... 15" wheels ain't cutting it :(

Should look good with 225/40's and a cupkit.

YES! HOLY SHIT YES!
Upgrade your grey matter 'cause one day it may matter.

Don't be in such a hurry to condemn a person because they don't do what you do, or think as you think. There was a time when you didn't know what you know today...

Car has developed an electrical gremlin...

Interior lights want to stay on (even when in door-control mode), and when you lock the doors the alarm wants to go off.

I am told this is likely a door-open-sensor causing this, but unfortunately that's part of the latch assembly.

Not really looking to rip a door open to pull a latch... looked tricky when taking a quick glance at the wreckers.

Guess it's a manual lock car for now. :/

FYI, VagCom will tell you exactly what switch is setting off the alarm. Comes in real handy when trying to troubleshoot random alarm issues. :)
