1999 - Passat GLS / The Bauhaus

Postby mushroom_curry » Fri May 23, 2014 5:13 pm

It's the same silver as Randy's Golf - not reflex but with a hint of almost-gold pearl
152,000 km
Driven by an old man
1.8T Manual
Sunroof
Heated seats
Super clean inside and out

I am in LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of all? Picked it up for $1500!

I love the way this car looks JUST the way it is. Only things I would add are Hella or similar knockoff headlamps, and a OE textured Votex front lip. Needs tires soon so some lightweight Phateon Challengers with them hollowed out spokes would serve up one damn OEM+ treat!

So happy right now. Rides like butter. Going to keep 'er clean and drive it nicely till the wheels fall off!

Maturity never looked so good.

I love this car because it doesn't try to be anything other than "just a car". Simple lines, great comfort, no in your face douche-status. Life is good.

Those B5s are so understated it's scary. Love the pick up!

Bought this ultra rare OE/Votex lip:

Will be textured/plastidipped to match the existing textured skirts.
With a cup kit and some Phaeton wheels I am hoping for subtle class.

Also they now sell OEM RMT200 decks from overseas that have red/blue lighting, blue tooth capability and a USB/SD card in... FACTORY VW shit! Which means it uses factory plugs! WIN!

OE is the key.

Seller got the car from an older gentleman who was his dad's good friend for cheap. He now has a company car and wasn't driving this at all. Pretty sure everyone who saw the ad thought it was a Kijiji scam because he had super clean pics up and was only asking $2000 and had NO phone number up. He had priced it to sell but in doing so had scared everyone away.

My intention was to show up and offer him $1200 if it checked out. But after driving it that felt like robbery, so I offered him $1500.

I've literally gone over the entire car and the only things wrong with it is the ABS module is effed ($600 new but I can grab one from the wreckers I'm sure), and that one of the door jam switches is on the fritz so the interior lights have to be shut off from the dome light for now.

No leaks, no squeaks, runs about as proper as an underpowered Sedan would. Rev matching on downshifts is a treat.

Granted, Passats are a pain in the ass when it comes to front suspension but S4 tie rod ends and FCP Groton control arms take care of that. Beyond that nothing really other than the motor being a 1.8T... but anything that breaks on a 1.8T can be replaced with something that will make moar power. lol

Jesse is selling his B5 Passat wagon, and it has an FK cup kit on it.

The buyer does not want a lowered wagon. Since Jesse does not want to shell for new OE suspension, he offered to swap my suspension with his cupkit and install it for le free.

The goal for this car is to keep it stock, but a free cup kit to replace a tired-ish stock suspension? Can't turn that down. I tried but I couldn't.

I'm hoping it still looks totally stock to the untrained eye and doesnt look lowered... just sitting a bit nicer.
