2000 Volvo S40 (RIP)

Every interior panel rattles, all the leather is cracked lookin, it's an auto, has over 200k kms now, and the two driverside windows don't roll down. The power lock solenoids are also slow on the driverside only (takes a few tries)... It's only redeeming quality is that it's silver and has a textured rubstrip that goes the whole way around.

Only regret here is timing, as there was an absolutely mint 2004 at the wreckers that could have given up its window regulators and seats for this car.

If I can find el cheapo used coils for this thing and some used skinny 17" tarmacs this thing could be nice. Could throw in a manual trans and maybe a big turbo and a cage one day? FL car, its rust free!

Somehow found winter tires and wheels in Hamilton last night that appear to be brand new and on 4x114.3 steelies.
Same centerbore too! Went to get them in the Passat after picking it up.

Slapped the winter tires on the Volvo and left the all-seasons here (not allowed to have anything in the vehicle when shipping) and dropped the car off to the rail yard this morning.

$1060 ships it to Calgary. Going to leave it on Ontario plates then revisit what to do 6 months down the road. Should arrive in Calgary in 8 days after it gets on the train this Thursday.

PS: Sometimes I love how thugged out black steelies look on a silver car with textured rubs. Looking forward to ripping off that front plate!!!

Awesome.

I can't wait to see it's progress. Enjoy driving the Mitsubishi.

17x9 et+15 205-40 all around. Post 2001 models have wider front fenders.

I have a 2000, and looks like a Mugen style 1994/1995 Honda Accord front lip can be modded a bit to fit. Which is dope because they're like $50.

Shit coils are available for these things too! (FK)

So there is lots of "clunking" from the front end of the car, and it turns out it's the crappy strut mounts on the earlier S40s. Phase II strut mounts should sort that out.

Also every bolt in the dash of the car is loose because of all the vibration from the motor. These cars have engine mount failure issues.

So my question is... if it's a 4 banger that's vibrating because of failing mounts, would brand new OEM mounts stop the vibrating? Or would it be smarter to get harder aftermarket mounts? Either way I'll be popping out screws in the dash, dabbing on thread-lock and tightening everything up.

Unless the car came off the showroom floor with vibration issues I would say OEM mounts would be the best way to go.

If the engine has its own vibrations not caused by bad mounts you will hate yourself for putting in harder mounts.

Coolio. I think I am going to have fun doing some maintenance work on this thing myself.

Stuff requiring attention:
- drop links
- engine mounts
- upper strut mounts

FK coils are $350 shipped to my door but it is slow season @ work, so no dollas can be spent till Spring anyway.

Car still has not shipped to Calgary. They are waiting for 1 more car to make it a full shipment. They didn't say that when I dropped the car nor the money off though!

If the car was a manual and had a renault diesel in it:

-eggcrate grille
-stock euro corners (non crystal clear)
-shit coils
-Bridgestone DTM reps (ESM 001) in 17x8 all around
-Yellow HIDs in the foglamps
-Straight pipe
-BTCC Vinyl
-And lastly this wing that Rob found: http://www.versusmotorsport.com/#/item/ ... uring_wing

But its not, so no vinyl and no wing? Lulz.

Yeah dude... you kinda need that wing.

Grab a vinyl scrap in a garish colour like highlighter yellow and do the mirrors and a windshield banner.

Likewise. Kinda gives me more faith in the process.
They have a door-to-door service... might actually make sense to do with the MK2 and just have it wrapped in tape.

The MK2 HAS to go to SOWO this year and H2O... no excuses.

I found some rust on it. Bubbling under the paint at the bottom of the rear driver door.

I cannot own a car with rust. Ugh.

PS look what I got for $300

I expected this as far as packaging goes from an 18 year old. Adjustable shocks (hard soft) and perches... You adjust the lower perch instead of the spring perch to lower.

But I wish I didn't buy em. Really can't see this car passing an out of province but I have 6 months to figure that out.
