Alternator

Randy,

I recall you mentioning that you killed your alternator in the Benz with your airride compressors. Gretta doesn't appear to be charging her battery anymore either (although the car will idle - nearly dies when there is any other electric load put on it).

I replaced the alternator yesterday with no luck. Battery was replaced before H20 last year.

Is there anyway to isolate the battery / charging system from the compressor (which puts nasty feedback into the system)?

Did you have the battery out of the car, or at least disconnected?
If not, the battery is probably done.

My stock 30 year old alternator was only 40 or 50 amps.. can't remember. It was just a matter of time before it died with the extra load. The compressors won't draw enough to kill the new one.. only 16amp draw.

Didn't try the battery. I assumed it is good as it has about 50 km on it. Never know though!

I will troubleshoot the battery. What is the best way to test it?

Take it out of the car and do a sloooow trickle charge.
If that doesn't rejuvenate the battery, nothing will. Unless it's the other style where you need to add water to it.

Probably have to buy a new one. I left mine in the corrado and it doesn't hold a charge anymore.
