I searched but couldn't find a car audio thread.
Music is important to all of us here, but car audio is almost never discussed.

SO HERE'S A THREAD

A few years ago I brainstormed with a friend about a problem I had with a car amp and the output from my head unit. I sold the Benz and stored the audio equipment, so I didn't end up doing anything about the issue. Now I am revisiting because I have installed the amp and head unit in the Golf.

Hardware:
Eclipse 8v head unit with 3 pairs of outputs - 2x front, 2x rear, 2x sub
PPI 6 channel Amplifier 2 pairs of inputs – 2x front, 2x rear, sub signal is pulled from rear signal.

Why the amp has 6 channels and 2 pairs of inputs I cannot guess. The head unit has low frequency cutoffs for the front/rear and high frequency cutoffs for the sub channels, so I figured I could mix the rear and sub channels before reaching the amp. This way I can control the sub frequency volume independently of the rear channel frequency volume even though they both enter the amp as a rear channel.

So last last week I found a very well-reviewed passive mixer for this purpose and I just received it today. It was around $60 shipped from Amazon. It sure beats buying a whole new amp when all I want is to do is turn down the sub volume when I want to listen to my podcasts. I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Update: power is out at work so I had the opportunity to install the mixer. Works like a charm!

There is a slight frequency overlap between the sub and rear speakers. I can only notice it when I fade completely to the back and crank the sub volume up and down. No complaints here :)

Seconded motion to move to technical

It's so small, I tucked it in beside the amp in the spare wheel well.

Additionally, being that it's a passive mixer, I don't have to worry about additional electrical interference.

Holy crikey that's perfect.

So that's the Porsche equivalent to the RMT200?

Because it's identical features wise!
