my TC saga

Postby tripwalking » Wed Jan 21, 2009 1:28 pm

So I got the code; torque converter is pooped.

car sits at VW while I drive a grand prix and have an ergonomic meltdown every time I look at it.

think "why am I using all my rental days driving this lump when my car is sitting there?" The extended warranty company will only give me $200 for a rental car per job. I was told this amount is usually in the $150 range.

then they get the parts and start to tear the car apart.

Here's where it gets good. I got a call today saying "good news, bad news". Bad news: the warranty dimwits ordered a TC for a non-W8 passat and it won't fit. Bad news/good news: I have to keep the Grand Failure for another few days/the extended warranty people are paying for it. Good news: warranty people are supplying an OEM brand new VW torque converter.

stupid thing won't do an all wheel burnout unless it's snowing or raining. POJ. Then what's the fun?

I'm very happy with the extended warranty! It's paid for itself within the first two months of ownership.

car's done, and no surprise they wouldn't do the cam adjusters while it was all apart.

is there anything wrong with the cam adjusters?
sounds like 10 minutes of work to unjam one if it gets stuck, that's good news!

no signs of anything wrong at this point. I just thought it would be nice to do ahead of time. Oh well, I'll try the Tenz treatment if I notice anything.

It's nice when the converter locks up!
