MSD

Call it "The grey thing" with a subtitle "the not so daily daily" for now... I will come up with a better name later, or someone make a suggestion.

I don't think they are as big as they come out to be but rather just a lot of people talking about using them. Here are some reasons I am doing mine.

Replacement coilpacks are expensive (read $270US plus for a OEM) and that is from a cheap suplier. I think I've heard them going for $500+ at stealerships around canader. So with that being said, a MSD Setup allows you to re-use the factory ICM off the coil, toss out the OEM coilpacks (6 together as one unit) and run coilpacks that are group in 2's so that if one set blows, it's just a matter of replacing 2 of the coils vs all 6 + ICM, or $50 instead of $260.

The OEM coilpack are known for cracking as well, I believe due to the location / heat of the engine, and as a result, in the wet weather the crakcs cause misfires which mine is doing now in severe rain.

Some other benifits? Stock ones are said to run at 10kV while MSD's are said to run at 40kV so that is a plus. Allows for larger gaps, good for boost etc etc.

And most importantest. They make it look like there is some buizness going on under the hood. 8)

Yes, I forgot I had a spare one (the one I gave you)! The one on the car isn't much better though... if I ever drive it again I'll probably order some, however my fun money should be going towards getting that coop ready for action.

They should be in Milton today or tomorrow... we'll pick them up when we take parts there, or vice versa.

design started.

I'm having it laid out much like the bracket that's already on the market. There will be slight changes, but it will still mount the coils so the wires are coming out the top.

Now would be the time to add design suggestions.

I'll get a price to make them from stainless and mild steel that you can rattle can or powder.

Coils mounted up top works for me. I like the look of that layout.

Haven't heard any other real issues from a readers perspective on the bracket. I'm sure what your doing is going to work great.

Any feedback re: plugs on the far end or the near end of the coil pack?

I think near end make it look cleaner once the wires are put in place...

like this...

Assuming that's what you meant :P

Is the mounting of the packs that specific? Ie not easily reversed?
