Also, with being the best selling truck, there will be plenty of spare parts after a few years. Body shops will eventually adapt and find ways of fixing them, but I wonder if it will just be cheaper for the first while to buy a whole new panel or door instead. For the first while, I'm thinking that Bondo sales will go way up.
One thing that body shops won't have to deal with for the average life of the vehicle is rust repair. Whereas at Helumt's shop in Cambridge had a fair amount of work fixing rust on cars going back at lease end. I was very surprised to find that out.

Somebody hit a turkey with a company FISO which had the aluminum hood, it was replaced as opposed to repaired and was not cheap.

I've witnessed more than a few insurance companies already moving towards the replace vs repair road in case of damaged panels. I assumed it was simply due to the fact that most companies are now guaranteeing work for life on repairs though and wanted to ensure issues such as bondo cracking would not present.

Since we are not seeing a huge increase in purchase costs for these new newfangled aluminium cars I'm assuming it's not that much more to manufacture / make panels? Probably due to the mass production of them? I'm sure the Automotive companies are not eating profits to make this possible either.

No doubt Ford ordering a zillion panels will have brought the cost way down on those parts. Regardless, the replacement hood was over a grand IIRC, and those had been on the road for a while at that point. The aftermarket might not be able to take full advantage of manufacturer savings.

I predict/propose Carbon Fiber replacement panels exploding in the after market world due to their inexpensive nature now. :)

With the things people do with their trucks here that alu would def be bad news if repair isn't easy.

I like the looks of this

http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/chicago/2014/1402-toyota-trd-pro-series-introduced-for-tundra-tacoma-4runner/

For being 9 years old the Tacoma still looks pretty good... they must be tooling up its replacement though. Makes me wonder where the model is headed.
