If you're just going to post 993s and 964s why not use the other thread?

I vote putting all of the pics from the 993/964 thread in here as it was a discussion thread to begin. And correcting the title of this one to say "Porch".

Tell me.. how would you feel about somebody replacing the whale tail with a normal, flush hood?
I've always preferred the normal hood.. although, this one looks quite nice this way.

RS America is my favourite 964 bar none. I would consider putting a different trunk/hood (lol) on it yes, as I would switch the wheels. I'm not much of a purist.

Ah the ugly duck of the Porsche lineup...

The 996 combines the the best of all previous generations and still forms the foundation for the 997 today. The chassis of the '6 and '7 are nearly identical. Every body panel is different but the heart and soul (which is what really matter in a Porsche; a driver's car) are the same.

I agree the fenders aren't nearly as curvaceous, the early 996 interiors leave something to be desired and the headlights aren't purist. What really matters is they are much more reliable and can be had and used by a poor schmuck like me for a reasonable amount of money.

When I see any P on the road it always puts a smile on my face period. How often do you see a 930 or 993?

The lack of lairy, wide fenders, the economics when produced (many ballers were screaming for these things in '01 and '02) and progression to a much superior water cooled 993 GT1 motor (in the TT) have made supercars available to anyone looking for a $40,000 daily driver with great performance.

The motors are very reliable. As with anycar in this range, brakes and clutch take a beating. The other biggie is DV (typical Bosch terrible design) and failure of hydraulics in the wing. Replace with a fixed GT1 model. Electronics are hit and miss as well. Replace the headunit with an aftermarket DVD nav - solution.

We have some of the best Porsche (and most reasonable) mechanics in North America in KW beleive it or not. I've had this ocnversation with a couple of guys with 930's and 997's. A debadged 996 TT in black or silver almost blends in with traffic and is a great way for a young guy to get into this type of vehicle.

That's the thing Steve... everything you wrote is true. I don't lust after a Porsche for its reliability, ergonomics or 'dailyability', I want it to be as visceral and emotional as possible. I want that bathtub shape, I want the classic dash, I want it to sound like marbles in a coffee can. If I were looking for a vehicle with the sort of traits you mentioned in that price range I'd buy an RS4 or something along those lines. This is just my opinion on the matter... but when I think Porsche, the things that tie the brand to my heart strings are all but missing from the 996- and if I were to buy a P car, it will absolutely be an emotional decision.
