Clutch failure imminent......

Postby Mandeep D » Wed Aug 08, 2007 3:55 pm

Will it go suddenly, or can I bide my time if I'm careful? What I'm asking is; will there come a day when suddenly it will not engage any more at all, or will it gradually lose performance from the top down?

Right now it'll hold off the line if it's cold. 3rd gear at 10+psi is a crapshoot at any temperature. My grandma would never know it's shot at all - got the picture?

p.s. the reason I'm asking is so that I might put it off until post-coilover installation ;)

Do it now. Mine went so quickly on the corrado. From slipping in boost, to trouble on hills in a matter of weeks.

Does a vr6 clutch fit? I have a stage 3 clutch that you could have rebuilt for cheaper than a stock one.

my 2L went a little surprisingly too..

it would slip when really giving it, or in 1st on quick launches... but hold everywhere else... then it just dropped out and I couldn't accelerate faster than a fully laden semi.

It took my talon (turbo AWD) to go from what you're describing now to virtual undrivability in exactly 3 days longer than it took my clutch to come in from dsmparts.com. I echo the above.

Dammit you guys. You were supposed to say "No, it'll take months to go out completely. Go ahead & lower it!".

Never figured you lot would be the voice of reason - sheeeeesh

Lower it first.

Once you have to on/off/on/off/on/off to get into every driveway on the planet your clutch will repair itself. VW's do that.

1000 awarded points to DW and Steve on this one. Apparently my driving style has the unique ability to repair clutches.

 Maybe I should open a clutch repair shop where all I do is drive your car one day a week until it's fixed
