A concerned friend on a serious topic...

Postby square head » Mon May 25, 2009 9:32 am

Gents,

Greg is at his wit's end with his red III. I don't blame him. The car has been an absolute nightmare. He is about to make a hasty decision that I think he will regret.

I am a realistic guy and know that the Japanese car makers produce some solid products. That said, nothing from the land of the rising sun inspires driving passion like our German counterparts.

The reality is this... I can't see our good Polish friend driving a 2008 Honda Accord (yeah, that is what he wants to buy) with a smile on his face daily. No excuses that sportier cars demand higher insurance and consume more fuel. This is part of the game of owning something fun to drive. No excuses that you still own a VW (the Golf) as we know it is more of a ship in a bottle than an actual car :)

Let's get serious here for a few minutes and help him out. He doesn't want to modify this next car either.

Options:

-low mileage, well maintained Mk3. He can reuse his coils and already knows the cars inside and out :) He wants something with warrenty (peice of mind) as he doesn't want to spend his weekends with tools in hand.

-late model MkIV 1.8T (AWP engine code). Great mileage. If you really want to you can put 89 octane in it. Tons of pep with a chip. Reliable as all hell. No warrenty.

-late model MkIV TDi. No warrenty.

-MkV Jetta TDi. 1 - 2 years old. Warrenty.

-BMW 330 or similar.

-A4 Ultrasport Avant

-1993 Civic Hatch with a B20iZ83904vtech

My friend just picked up an '06 black on black A4 S-line with 45K on it for under 30G's. 3.2l FSi loaded stunna.

Still under warranty, and you can also extend it after the fact.

Also, a 2.0T would have better mileage to begin with, and has huge modding potential if the bug bites.

Good deal here ^

Wow, good find! Seems a little too good though? I was at Crosby on Sat and something similar was going for about 26k with higher mileage

If you don't want it, maybe I'll get it for Joanna  . Lemme know if you're going to look at it.
