Start a new thread, we're making progress...

Postby gregosh » Sun Sep 07, 2008 7:24 pm

Drove it for the first time in almost 1.5 years today. Cranked right up, no low oil pressure light (thanks Randy + Steve). Took it for a slow spin around the block. No ticking from the engine, flat spots from tires quickly went away, and brakes let go!

In other words, great success!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a sample of the fabric I plan on using for the headliner, A, B, and C pillars, will be taking it to a couple upholstery shops this week to see if it will work. Once that's done it's the home stretch.

You know the story... I can't get insurance for it.

Ran into a bit of a snag today. Headliner doesn't fit  Any ideas? Is it worth my time making a fiberglass one, should I get the interior guy to just make me one, any pics of cars without headliners?

The interior of the shell is painted, it's a matter of taking off all of the sponge foam deadening stuff and cleaning it up.

if you're looking at selling it I'd throw a headliner back in.

So I've decided that I will make the damn thing fit, stay tuned. This is going to be an uphill battle. I've though about making one out of fiberglass, but the time that it takes to do it would be insane. There was a batch of carbon fibre ones that were made, but the company that did them is MIA right now, it's still an option.

don't go spending hundreds that will only raise the resale value $20
just make it fit well, you are selling it after all

Word Randy.

Finishing the dash tonight, just have to mount/fit the driver's side knee peice, then trimming the A-pillars, which leave me with the headliner.

I have to figure out how to get a 4x8 sheet of wood home so I can make a jig/table so the rebuilding process can begin

monthly update:

Broke the headliner in 2 pieces. Back half has been made to fit, same with the front half. Now they're getting glassed together *gulp*. Depending on how quick the fiberglass sets I will know this week if the project was a success, or not

Here it is, structurally, it's sound now. Will be doing a test fit later on today... if everything fits I will be blending the cut out sections to the existing headliner. Please kill me now.

Funny thing, I bought winter rims + tires last night that would clear the Wilwoods

Just smoothing out all the cracks and filling in the rebuilt sections to match the existing curves, should be done by the end of the weekend. Then off to upholstery!

As you folks probably know, don't you know it, the headliner is done! I will post pics of the thing covered tonight/tomorrow.

I'm looking for a volunteer or two to help me put the gosh darnet stupid thing into place this weekend. I'll work my schedule around yours, not a big deal. Will pay in hugs, beer, and firm handshakes :D
