What you might call an update...

Postby gregosh » Sun Oct 08, 2006 3:26 pm

So I've been thinking... Selling the Golf would be what I would want to do ideally. I don't see it happening though. I would be taking a too big of a hit, and I would be down a car.

I've been doing some thinking this weekend and I came up with a little list of shit that needs to get done so I can store this thing as a car, and not have it be a mobile parts bin.

Parts

• Suspension
• 15” rims for the front
• Headliner
• 2x Rear seatbelt upper screw cover
• Driver’s side rear seatbelt ass’y
• Driver’s side upper seatbelt screw cover
• Driver’s side door speaker grill
• Corrado/Scirocco seat base
• Driver’s seat lower dash knee piece
• Passenger’s side lower glove box
• Driver’s side plastic seat rail cover

Labour
• Trim A-Pillar pieces to fit to dash
• Cover a-Pillar pieces in suede
• Attach hatch interior plastic piece
• Secure rear section of center console
• Weld Corrado/Scirocco seat base to existing seats
• Gauges (either remove them, and sell them, or hook everything up which would include tapping the oil filter housing, installing aftermarket O2 sensor, rewire them so that they dim with the interior lights)
• Run speaker wire from the rear
• Attach interior mirror plate pieces
• Redesign upper glove box to house deck (I’m thinking of some wood carving action)

Thoughts? Opinions? I would start to look around for parts and collect them and get this thing done asap and when time allows me to work on it.

what are you looking for suspension wise, something to get it out of the garage? or are you looking to go coils?

cuz if you're loking to get it out of the garage, I owe you something.

it'll be a nice closing to a chapter treating it like this.

If you need help with any of it, let me know, I'm always glad to lend a hand.

Thanks Rick, will let you know for sure. I always seem to have an urge to work on the peice when the weather is freezing outside for some reason :?

Rob, yes, stock suspension to get it rolling, and so that I can swap the stock stuff back on the Jetta if need be.

Update:

I bought suspension for the car, stock VR6 setup but there's a problem.

The guy I bought it from installed a cup kit on his car, so he ended up taking the top metal caps that the spring seats in and obviously there's no strut bearings, etc etc.

Does anybody have spares of this stuff laying around? I really don't want to spend any more money than I have to on this stupid suspension, it's eating away at the POS budget

Moved it to the other side of the garage. Brakes were seized so it made it next to impossible to move. Giving her a wash and vacuum this weekend and then it's time to figure out how to reupholster the damn headliner. After that, it should be all downhill 8)

is the headliner still in one piece?
there are plenty of DIY headliner fixes on the vortex. key is to scrape/rub off the old glue that's on it. I didn't know that when I did one years ago, it came down on the first hot day in summer

I said it, so I guess the pressure is on!

Headliner is in one piece. I really wish it would warm up a bit, even with the garage it's really hard to do anything. I want to do a final test fit after I fiberglassed it so that I know it fits 100%. Then I need to get my hands on some industrial strength adhesive and go to down with making it look pretty.

Another update.... Got all of the pieces to finish the interior this morning!!!!! Going fabric shopping tomorrow for the headliner and hopefully I'll be getting it covered in the next week.

Any upholstery shop recommendations?
